Right in time for World Oral Health Day 20 March 2025 ohGiGi® Recognised for Leading Sustainable Oral Care
MELBOURNE, Australia - AussieJournal -- ohGiGi® has been awarded the Diamond Product Sustainability Award for the second consecutive year, recognising its ongoing commitment to reducing environmental impact within the oral care sector. This announcement precedes World Oral Health Day, observed annually on March 20.
ohGiGi® was founded in 2021 by Karen Tan, following a personal diagnosis of multiple chemical sensitivities in 2015. This experience prompted an investigation into the composition of consumer products, including toothpaste, which revealed concerns with synthetic additives and plastic packaging. The company was subsequently established to provide an alternative.
The primary environmental concern addressed by ohGiGi® is the disposal of traditional plastic toothpaste tubes. These tubes, often composed of multiple material layers, contribute to landfill waste and microplastic pollution. ohGiGi®'s product line features reusable glass jars as a substitute for conventional plastic packaging.

To further reduce waste, biodegradable refill sachets are offered, allowing consumers to replenish the glass jars. As of the award date, ohGiGi® reports a diversion of over 40,000 toothpaste tubes from landfill. The company's goal is to divert one million tubes.
Ingredient selection at ohGiGi® prioritises natural and minimally processed components. The company avoids synthetic additives and sweeteners. Packaging materials are selected for recyclability or compostability.
ohGiGi® provides educational resources to consumers regarding sustainable practices and the composition of oral care products. The company disseminates information through online platforms and product materials.
The Diamond Product Sustainability Award recognises ohGiGi®'s achievements in sustainable practices with its product development and packaging. The company's focus remains on reducing plastic waste and promoting the use of natural ingredients in oral care.
