SYDNEY - AussieJournal -- Marking 10 years of service to the community, today, National Annual Asbestos Awareness Day (also known as Asbestos Victims Memorial Day); the asbestosawareness.com.au website was dedicated to honouring two extraordinary women; the late Carol Klintfält OAM and the late Serafina Salucci OAM, recognising their commitment to advancing awareness of the dangers of asbestos to save lives.
When diagnosed with a terminal disease like malignant mesothelioma that develops as a result of inhaling asbestos fibres, it's understandable most would choose to spend every precious moment with their loved ones. However, when Carol and Serafina learned they'd unknowingly been exposed to asbestos fibres when asbestos-containing materials were disturbed, both became staunch campaigners for Asbestos Awareness to prevent others from putting their lives and the lives of loved ones at risk.
Even when battling mesothelioma knowing there is no cure; both Carol and Serafina were selfless in their undeniable acts of courage, determination and commitment to advance national awareness of the dangers of asbestos.

Although both fought the disease that would eventually take them from their loved ones, they remained focused on a single-minded goal; to save lives.
Mathew Klintfält, Carol's son said, "Our family are honoured to have asbestosawareness.com.au dedicated to Mum in recognition of her invaluable contribution to Australians.
"Although faced with this devastating diagnosis, Mum courageously battled the hideous disease for a remarkable eight years, dedicating much of her precious time to vehemently campaigning for Asbestos Awareness; warning others of the dangers of asbestos to help save lives and families (like ours) from the heartache."
Mr Frank Salucci said his family also welcomed the dedication. "Serafina was incredibly passionate about the importance of ensuring the community became aware of the risks of asbestos, we know she'd be very happy her legacy continues.
Clare Collins, Director of National Asbestos Awareness Campaign and asbestosawareness.com.au said, "We had the honour of working closely with Carol and Serafina who did everything within their power to increase awareness of the dangers of asbestos, even when their health was failing.
