New publications set out how early stage defence, space and aerospace hardware ventures and software as a service companies should be assessed before capital is raised or a transaction is run
SYDNEY - AussieJournal -- LCC Asia Pacific®, the investment banking, strategy and commercialisation advisory firm, today released two guides for founders, directors and investors in the defence, aerospace and space sectors: the Early Stage Technology Valuation Assessment and the Software as a Service Valuation Assessment.
The guides respond to a recurring problem in the sector. Valuations of early stage ventures are often built on claims about technology maturity and capability that have never been independently tested. When those claims are examined during a capital raising or sale, the gap between what was asserted and what can be evidenced becomes the largest single influence on price.

Each guide sets out 15 areas of investigation that establish what a venture has actually demonstrated, what it owns, what it is permitted to sell and to whom, and how effectively the capital raised to date has been converted into capability. Both are written for readers without a technical background.
The Early Stage Technology Valuation Assessment addresses ventures building hardware and physical systems at the concept, proof of principle and prototype stages, including how to test Technology Readiness Level claims against evidence rather than simulation or a supplier's specification.
The Software as a Service Valuation Assessment addresses the growing group of software companies, including regulatory technology providers, serving defence, aerospace and space customers. It examines the quality and durability of recurring revenue and gives particular attention to the security accreditation, export control and data sovereignty requirements that determine which customers a software company is permitted to serve.

"In these sectors the question is rarely whether the code runs or the prototype works on the bench," said Nicholas Assef, Founder & Managing Director of LCC Asia Pacific. "It is whether the venture can prove what it claims, whether it owns what it is selling, and whether it is permitted to sell it to the customers in its plan. These guides set out how to answer those questions before an investor or acquirer asks them."
Both guides are available from LCC Asia Pacific at www.lccib.com.
