Griefline and Outside the Locker Room (OTLR) are proud to announce the launch of their new collaboration and awareness campaign: It's Only a Game.
MELBOURNE, Australia - AussieJournal -- New Griefline partnership tackles grief in the locker room
October 10 marks World Mental Health Day, a global reminder of the importance of mental wellbeing, breaking down stigma, and fostering meaningful connection. It is a day to recognise that mental health is part of every story, including the stories we carry into our sporting communities.
In recognition of this significant day, Griefline and Outside the Locker Room (OTLR) are proud to announce the launch of their new collaboration and awareness campaign: It's Only a Game.
Sport is often a place of strength and celebration, but it can also be where we carry our most personal challenges, including grief. Whether it's the loss of a teammate, the end of a career, or carrying personal grief into the game, these moments remind us that behind every jersey is a human story.

OTLR was founded with the vision to connect lives and communities through conversation. Griefline exists to provide compassionate support, resources, and connection for anyone experiencing grief and loss. Together, our missions align: to break down stigma, create space for real conversations, and ensure no one feels alone in their struggles.
"This campaign is about recognising that grief doesn't stop at the locker room door," says Todd Morgan, CEO of OTLR. "Every athlete, coach, and sporting community member carries their own story, and we want to create a culture where it's safe to share that journey."
Louisa Smith, Director of Strategic Innovation of Griefline, adds: "Sport is a powerful connector, but it also shows us how grief touches every part of life. Through It's Only a Game, we hope to provide support, open conversations, and ensure no one in the sporting community feels alone in their experience of loss."

The campaign will shine a light on the many ways grief can enter our lives as athletes, coaches, and the sporting communities that surround us. It's Only a Game is more than a campaign – it's an invitation to acknowledge grief in all its forms and to stand beside one another with understanding and compassion.
Over the coming weeks, we will introduce athletes who have been touched by grief and share how they have navigated this pathway during and at the end of their sporting careers. We are also proud to share important resources developed to support sporting communities, both large and small.
Together, OTLR and Griefline are here to remind you: in sport and in life, no one should face grief alone. Read more about our collaboration here: https://griefline.org.au/new-griefline-partnership-tackles-grief-in-the-locker-room/
