PERTH, Australia - AussieJournal -- Weld East Fabricators has donated its fabrication expertise to help WA Wildlife prepare for the potential arrival of H5 bird flu in Western Australia, with panels for a new South West rehabilitation facility designed to support the care of more than 400 sick and injured black swans.

PERTH, WA — As Western Australia prepares for the potential arrival of H5 bird flu, local business Weld East Fabricators is putting its skills to work for wildlife, fabricating panels at no charge for a new rehabilitation facility being established by WA Wildlife in the South West.

The Garrett family, behind Perth-based Weld East Fabricators, has arranged for the business to fabricate panels pro bono for a rehabilitation facility established by WA Wildlife in the South West. The panels will support the facility's capacity to care for more than 400 sick and injured black swans.
The initiative reflects the Garrett family's commitment to giving back to the Western Australian community and supporting organisations that make a practical difference.
"WA Wildlife cares for the animals we all share this place with, and we wanted to find a practical way to help," said Jim Garrett, director of Weld East Fabricators.

"Our family believes in giving back to the community, and this project was an opportunity to put our team's skills to good use. We've approached the work with the same care and quality standards as any commercial project because the panels will play an important role in supporting wildlife rehabilitation."

Materials for the project were supplied by BlueScope distribution at wholesale pricing, helping support the contribution.
Weld East's team cut, formed and welded 50 × 50 mm mesh panels into frames at its Hazelmere workshop before applying a cold galvanising finish for rust protection. The panels were installed in time for summer.

Dean Huxley, CEO of WA Wildlife, said having suitable facilities and infrastructure in place is important when preparing for potential wildlife emergencies.
"Preparing for H5 bird flu means having the right infrastructure in place before it's needed. Weld East's generous contribution will help us care for more than 400 sick and injured black swans, and we're grateful for their support.

The project demonstrates how local businesses can contribute specialist skills and resources to support wildlife conservation and help prepare for emerging environmental challenges.
