Told through song and artwork, Navy's journey hopes to reach the heart of his forever person after nearly four years in care
GEELONG, Australia - AussieJournal -- After 1,362 days in care, Navy the deaf cattle dog finally has his story heard — through music, art, and heart."
After nearly four years in foster care, Navy — a deaf blue cattle dog — finally has his story shared with the world in a way words alone never could. He is the star of Episode 3 of Story of a Lonely Dog, a unique musical series created by Day of the Dog, the creative project of Melbourne-based artist and internationally acclaimed songwriter Vanessa.
Story of a Lonely Dog brings real-life rescue stories to life through music and original artwork. After losing her beloved soulmate Finch, a Staffy X, Vanessa created the series to honour dogs like Finch and educate the public about rescue dogs in a powerful new way. Each episode tells the story of a real dog in care. Navy's episode also features beautiful artwork by @mvanguardart.
About Navy
More on Aussie Journal
Navy was surrendered at just six months old after already being moved from home to home. He was confused, anxious, and misunderstood. As a deaf dog, he faced barriers that most others never do — from communication challenges to the lingering stigma that deaf dogs are "broken" or "too hard."
Thanks to the tireless commitment of Hear No Evil – Australian Deaf Dog Rescue and his long-term foster carer, Navy has grown into a clever, loving, loyal companion. He thrives on adventure, has a big personality, and loves life — proving that deaf dogs can live full, happy lives when given the chance.
About Hear No Evil
Hear No Evil was founded in 2014 to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome deaf and special needs dogs across Australia. Deaf dogs like Navy are often overlooked in shelters, but the organisation is committed to ensuring these dogs get the second chance they deserve.
More Than Words
Not every dog's story fits neatly into an adoption profile — and Navy is one of those dogs. Story of a Lonely Dog gave the rescue a rare and powerful way to show the world who Navy truly is. Through music and art, his journey becomes something you don't just read — you feel. It reaches hearts that might never have seen him otherwise.

It's a sad tale — but a hopeful one too. Instead of becoming another misunderstood statistic, Navy found sanctuary with people who didn't see him as broken. They believed in him, gave him what he needed, and showed him the patience and understanding to become his best self.
Now, all that's left is for Navy to find his forever home.
Quote from Hear No Evil's President, Vicki Law
"Everyone at Hear No Evil is 100% invested in finding Navy the perfect home. We believe his person is as unique as Navy is himself — we just haven't found that person yet. Navy has waited so long, but we know the right person is out there. He deserves nothing less."
