MELBOURNE, Australia - AussieJournal -- Griefline is pleased to announce that our application for the Digital Mental Health Program Continued grant opportunity has been approved by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.
This funding will provide three years of support (2025–26 to 2027–28) to ensuring our free, nationwide grief and loss telephone support service remains available to all adults aged 18+ across Australia.
Every year, grief impacts millions of people across the country. More than 1.6 million people are bereaved annually, while countless others experience non-death-related losses that profoundly affect their lives. Too often, these experiences are misunderstood or dismissed within Australia's "she'll be right" culture — leaving people overwhelmed and isolated in their grief.
Griefline exists to change that. We provide free support across multiple channels, meeting people where they are. By normalising Australia's stories of loss and pain, we help prevent grief from escalating into serious mental health challenges.

Kate Cahill, CEO of Griefline
"We are grateful to the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing for recognising the vital role grief support plays in Australia's mental health landscape. With this support, Griefline can continue to provide compassionate, evidence-informed telephone support across Australia — helping grief to be acknowledged, understood and supported – so no one has to face their grief alone."
Griefline's 2025–2028 Strategic Plan sets an ambitious goal: to double our reach by 2028, supporting 250,000 grieving people each year.
Louisa Smith, Director of Strategic Innovation at Griefline
"This three-year commitment from the Commonwealth Government gives us the space and time to explore ways to innovate and scale our impact. By strengthening partnerships and embedding grief literacy into communities we can build a future where grief is met with compassion and understanding — not silence. That's how we move closer to our vision of a society where grief is a shared human experience, supported at every level of community and care."
