'Tumult in Mecca' is a snapshot of the late '70s, a comedy, a societal portrait, and a story about how things can go terribly wrong when you dive into something without fully thinking it through. The slapstick humour is balanced with the human portrayal of a man who must make tough choices and try to avoid pitfalls when the call to adventure clashes with family life. It's a time of conflicts between conservative traditions and modern liberalism, further contrasted with life in the Middle East.
