MELBOURNE, Australia - AussieJournal -- The Djerring Hub in Flemington played host to a significant event on 6 July 2024, as HWPL (Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light) participated as a special guest at the Somali Day Australia Festival. In a landmark moment, HWPL signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Somali Community Inc., reinforcing their commitment to peace education and collaborative community efforts in Victoria.

The event was supported by Victoria Police, the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC), the Australian Somali Football Association (ASFA), and the Moonee Valley Council. Also attending were notable members of the Victorian government, including David Southwick MP, Trung Luu MLC, Evan Mulholland MP, Richard Welch MP, Andrew Crisp AM APM, Vivienne Nguyen and senior members of Victoria Police including Acting Commander Darren Paterson. We were also joined by Ibrahim Hassan, State Manager for Victoria at MCCA and community elder; Qiniso Dube, President of Africa Day Australia Inc.; Yasseen Musa, Vice Chairman of the Eritrean Jeberti Community; Fartun Farah, Chairperson of the East African Women's Foundation; Awatif Taha from the Sudanese community, and members of local communities.

Mr Farah Warsame, President of Somali Community Inc., recently completed the HWPL Peace Education Teacher's Education (PETE) program. He was honoured for his dedication to fostering peace as he received his certification as a Peace Educator during the event. This certification reflected the commitment of both HWPL and Somali Community Inc. to equip community leaders with the knowledge and tools to promote peace and understanding.

In March 2024, HWPL's youth division, the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG), collaborated with Somali Community Inc. to conduct a successful youth empowerment workshop at the Djerring Hub. The workshop provided valuable insights and skills for young individuals, aiming to inspire the next generation of peacebuilders.

The signing of the MOU marked a pivotal step in formalising the ongoing collaboration between HWPL and Somali Community Inc. The agreement aimed to enhance efforts in peace education, youth engagement, and community development across Victoria. Through shared goals and mutual support, both organisations aspire to build a more cohesive and harmonious society.
