Training-in-a-box helps Twin Cities residents boost their job skills through world-class online training, regardless of their at-home hardware
MINNEAPOLIS - AussieJournal -- The Minnesota affiliate of New Horizons Computer Learning Centers will help area residents improve their job and technology skills while at home by loaning them the computer hardware necessary to access certified online training programs. Click to Tweet.
"We want our students to succeed so we created this resource to get people mobile, virtual, and on track for success," said Lisa Loken, owner of the Minnesota based franchise. The new effort, nicknamed "training-in-a-box," is direct, simple, and powerful. If residents want to or need to learn new technology skills or boost their business credentials, New Horizons in Minnesota will hand them a computer, monitor, headset, and mouse, all the hardware they need, to get started. A limited number of computer sets is available, but New Horizons will even walk a person through how to set it up and get going.

"We saw that people needed help. They don't have the resources to study. How are they going to take training?" said Megan Kraus, Operations Coordinator at New Horizons in Minnesota. "We asked ourselves, with the layoffs, what can we do to help? We decided to put everything a learner needs into a box and to hand it to them. It's that easy."
There is no added charge to use the hardware Kraus said, "We just ask that they return it within a week after their class ends." The interest was immediate. The Center set five students up with hardware over the first three-day weekend.
The Minnesota training-in-a box idea is the first of its kind among New Horizons' more than 200 franchise locations around the globe and New Horizons' leaders hope the idea will catch on.
Minneapolis area residents interested in certified job skills, career and technology training – or the training-in-a-box opportunities – should contact the Minnesota New Horizons office at 651-287-9950 or visit: https://www.newhorizonsmn.com/
