Defyn Media Offload moves bloated WordPress media libraries to S3-compatible cloud storage and a CDN, reclaiming server space and lowering costs, with no per-site licence fees.
PENRITH, Australia - AussieJournal -- Defyn, a Sydney-based digital agency, has released Defyn Media Offload, a free and open-source WordPress plugin that helps sites with large media libraries move their images, video and documents to S3-compatible cloud storage and serve them from a content delivery network (CDN). It is available now on the official WordPress plugin directory.
The plugin solves a problem Defyn kept hitting across client work: WooCommerce and other image-heavy eCommerce sites whose media libraries grow past 50GB, pushing them against the strict disk limits of managed hosting. As libraries grow, backups blow out, costs climb and maintenance gets harder.

Offloading media to object storage and serving it from a CDN is a well-established fix, but the cost was the catch. Existing plugins often charge per-site licences and lock core features behind a paywall, an expense Defyn did not think clients should carry indefinitely. Rather than pass those fees on, the agency built its own solution and gave it to the community for free.
"Our clients kept hitting the same storage wall, and the available tools felt overpriced for what is really foundational infrastructure," said Pradeep, who heads up web solutions at Defyn. "We decided the fairer thing was to build it properly and give it back to the WordPress community at no cost."
Defyn Media Offload works with any S3-compatible store, including Amazon S3, DigitalOcean Spaces, Cloudflare R2, Wasabi, Backblaze B2, Google Cloud Storage (in S3 mode) and self-hosted MinIO. It serves every file from the user's CDN and can optionally remove local copies so the site fits within host limits.

Built originally for a large WooCommerce multi-vendor marketplace, it is hardened against cases that break simpler tools. It offers automatic offload on upload, full coverage of WooCommerce product, variation and gallery images, a resumable bulk migration that survives dropped SSH sessions, and a separate, reversible "remove local" pass. Protected WooCommerce downloads stay private, the bundled AWS SDK is isolated so it does not conflict with other plugins, and the plugin includes no telemetry and never phones home.
